ROD Photograph
Ok, In this photo I had taken at Howard Hughes Ranch In Nevada I noticed a piece of dirt and was about to remove it. I zoomed in to perform the task and realized it was not dirt but a part of the image. The morning light is hitting it and really catching the detail of the object and it's physical attributes. Notice the shadow cast on it's (wings) from it's tubular body. Boy I am a believer now!

The image was taken in the late eighties and the good news is it was on Kodachrome ( almost no grain ). I think I used a Pentax zoom lens 24-50mm and probably was in wide angle mode 24mm- 30mm approx. The scanner is an epson and can go to 3,200 dpi which is what the scan is at. Color was corrected to visually match the original slide and no other filters were used.

The distance in my opinion is around 300-400 yds. to the rod from my location in the image. It could me more or less but not much. The Rod is between the trees and the two mountains in the sunlight. It is definitely not behind the mountain in shadow as it too would be in shadow.

I have had to give testimony on photos in court rooms so I do have some experience with images and location of objects. The fence is around 3 - 4 feet high so my guess is the rod is around 3 - 6 feet in length again maybe longer but probably not much more it also (looks) to be between the trees and mountains. I could be way off on this one but I feel I am guessing right given the distance to the fence...around 120 -150 yards. I rescanned the area of the Rod and left it at maximum resolution.

Thanks,
Geoff
